One of my favorite parts of painting is discovering & trying materials - which is how I ended up growing out of my house and into a studio. 😬
But, 2.5 years in - here are some of my faves!
- A painting sketchbook with lovely, thick and smooth mixed media paper for exploration and color studies.
- Raw, unprimed canvas - which means I’ve learned how to stretch my own canvas!
- A variety of brushes. I used to think ‘nice’ brushes were what I should aspire to, but as it turns out - some of the brushes I love the most and come back to again and again for their awesome texture are — basic!
- A silicone wedge - just love the way this spreads paint!
- Acrylic paint in several formats/brands. I’ve tried just about every weight, from heavy body to high flow - and I honestly love them all in different applications. You don’t have to spend a ton - acrylics are a really approachable medium to try out. (Right now I have a special love in my heart for the Golden High Flow Fluorescent Chartreuse, which is quite the mouthful! 😂)
- Pencils for additional marks after the paint dries.
- Pastels (oil and non oil) for additional marks after the paint dries.
Happy painting! 🎨
